Just part of the job: Police officer delivers baby girl in car showroom

While a pregnant woman could call on the help of a police officer if she needed to relieve herself in public, it’s not often that she would ask for an officer to help deliver her baby.

But that was exactly what happened when a Metropolitan police officer helped to deliver a baby girl in a car showroom in Tower Hamlets, London, after being flagged down by the father yesterday afternoon.

The heavily pregnant woman, Linda Frimpong,  was being driven to hospital by her partner when the baby was about to arrive.

The father-to-be pulled over next to transport police officer Robert Morgan, who was dealing with a vehicle near the Mercedes-Benz showroom in Newham, and asked for help.

PC Morgan rang for assistance but had to deliver the baby before the ambulance arrived, however he did have some assistance from Pc Christine Goode and the woman’s sister, who made it to the scene in time.

Pc Morgan said: ‘We deal with all sorts of incidents, however I wasn’t expecting this today.
‘The mother was not keen on my suggestion of calling the baby girl Mercedes.’
Both mother and child were taken to an east London hospital.

The baby girl is still to be named .
