'Nose-bite' victim decides to settle case amicably

The case filed against Ratnapura District UNP Parliamentarian Dinesh Gankanda on the charges of having assaulted a businessman and biting his nose, was amicably settled before the Colombo Fort Magistrate yesterday
When the case came up before Magistrate Thilina Gamage, both the defendant and the complainant expressed their willingness to settle the case. As the complainant did not claim compensation from the defendant but fully committed himself to the settlement, the Parliamentarian was released from the case.
In this case, the Kollupitiya police had filed a charge-sheet against the Parliamentarian alleging that he had assaulted businessman Nadarajah Thivakaran and inflicted injuries on him after biting his nose, on or around May 27, 2012 at the Galle Face Hotel in Colombo.
Police further alleged that the suspect had committed a punishable offence, under Section 314 of the Penal Code.
