Snow covered highlands in northwest Saudi Arabia after the area was hit by a snow and thunderstorm for several hours on Sunday morning.
Newspapers said temperatures dipped below zero in the northwestern town of Tabuk close to the border with Jordan as well as surrounding mountainous areas.
The Arabic language daily Ajel published pictures showing the snow-covered areas, in sharp contrast with the hot yellow sand dunes in the eastern Rub Al Khali (Empty Quarter), the deadliest and most barren desert in the world.
