Chelsea latest transfer news: Man Utd's Rooney, Van Persie raid?
Jose Mourinho is way to canny not to cash in on the current chaos at Manchester United.
On the one hand he has the mighty Manchester City with a squad that can afford to chase four titles, injuries and all.
The Special One must know that for Stamford Bridge to be able to compete with that kind of bench strength, his current roster is just not enough.
Especially not with all his goal-scoring strikers out on loan.
He must also have one eye on Arsenal who seem to have found enough of spine to go with their flair as they mount a genuine title charge for the first time in years.
The pickings from Manchester United might be needed not just to counter City, but to keep the Gunners at bay as well.
So maybe Wayne Rooney alone is not enough.
If, and when, he does make the switch, Mourinho may do well to consider a bid for another United star – think the unthinkable – Robin Van Persie.
Van Persie left Arsenal because he wanted to win trophies.
He has won one at United. And one is not going to be enough for a striker of his class and calibre.
Arsene Wenger might be too proud to give RVP a way back to the Emirates and RVP may be too proud to take it.
RVP will be hungry for more silverware and United may be out of it for a few years as Moyes attempts to build a new dynasty.
With a Chelsea midfield foundation of Eden Hazard, Oscar, Ramires, Juan Mata and Lampard, Rooney and RVP could genuinely have a platform to shine.
The pressure could be off Fernando Torres and Romelu Lukaku could be brought back from Everton and Cheslea could field Lukaku, Torres, Rooney and Van Persie to counter Aguero, Negredo, Dzeko and Navas.
Will Mourinho dare?
