A dead body was found inside the toilet of the Gold Centre building in Deira on Tuesday morning.
Sources at the centre said shops were closed for almost two hours because Dubai Police cordoned off the area to remove the body which was found on the mezzanine floor of the building, which houses many gold and jewellery stores.
Located opposite the Gold Souq bus station and at the entrance of the road leading to the Deira Gold Souk, the centre has two floors of retail jewellery outlets and additional offices floors occupied mainly by jewellery trading companies.
“The dead body was found in the toilet which was locked from the inside. The cleaning boy saw the body and alerted others about it,” said a source.
“(The body) was taken into custody by the Dubai Police. Normally our shops and offices open at 9am, but today the shops were allowed to open only after 10.45am,” said a shop owner.
The body appeared to be that of an Indian from the state of Punjab. It appears that the man died late on Monday night and the cleaning boy found it early on Tuesday, early morning.
Dubai Police confirmed that the body was of an Indian national.
The body will be sent to forensic lab for further investigation.
