Diego Maradona to Resume Playing Career at Age 53 with Deportivo Riestra

 Diego Maradona
Argentine legend Diego Maradona is set for a sensational return to football as rumors arise that he is coming out of retirement at the age of 53. The former World Cup winning captain looks set to sign for minnows Deportivo Riestra, who play in Argentina’s regionalized fifth tier. Maradona, who played his last game of football in 1998, is set to be such a draw when he makes his expected debut on March 23rd that the club is planning to abandon their 3,000 capacity stadium in favor of the 43,494 capacity stadium, Estadio Pedro Bidegain, home to Primera Division champions San Lorenzo.
Maradona has reportedly been convinced to sign for the Buenos Aries club by Victor Stinfale, the financier of the minnows as well as Maradona’s friend and legal representative. The former Argentina national team boss was briefly appointed ‘Spiritual Coach’ of the club last August. Reports from Argentina state that when asked to become the side’s manager, Maradona simply said, “I want to play.” Club insiders revealed to sports newspaper Olé that the official paperwork has been filed to the Argentine FA and things are expected to go through smoothly.

“Within five game weeks, Maradona will be playing for Riestra,” revealed their source. “He will debut on approximately the 23rd of March.” Maradona is likely to take up his famous No. 10 shirt, with the club’s current number 10, Victor More, responding: “I’ll wear whatever.”
This is a truly extraordinary piece of news and can surely only be a good thing for the world of football, especially Deportivo Riestra, who will surely gain financial benefits from the signing of Maradona. Millions will be eagerly anticipating to see if these rumors come to fruition. If they do, I’m sure all fans of the beautiful game will be excited to see a football legend make his return to football at the age of 53, 16 years after hanging up his boots.
