8-year-old boy buried alive after fainting

Mum and husband were arrested after burying the boy in a remote place

An Arab woman and her new Saudi husband buried her eight-year-old son alive in a remote place in Saudi Arabia after they thought the child was dead when he fainted, a newspaper in the Gulf Kingdom reported on Thursday.

The woman, who is staying illegally in Saudi Arabia, was on a picnic with her 35-year-old husband and her son from a previous husband outside the Western town of Makkah when the boy fainted apparently because of exhaustion, Sada daily said.

“They thought the boy was dead so they dug a pit in the sand and buried him at night before going back home,” the paper said, quoting police.

“But a man who happened to be in the area waited for them to leave and went to the grave after he became suspicious about the way they buried the boy…when he unearthed the boy, he found that he was alive.”

The paper said the boy’s mother and her husband, identified only as HSK, were arrested while the child, who was in a good condition, had been checked by doctors before he was handed over to a social centre.
