Sport; Emmanuel Adebayor released by club on compassionate leave over disturbing Facebook posts
Emmanuel Adebayor will not take part in Tottenham Hotspur’s post-season tour of Australia and Malaysia.
The Telegraph report the striker has been released on compassionate leave, after airing his personal issues in the media over the past fortnight.
Adebayor was granted leave earlier in the season to return to Togo after a family row, and the paper report he is expected to fly back to the African country to clear his head.
The report states that Spurs still want to sell him this summer, but their immediate concern is his mental well being.
He has been excused from training ahead of the final Premier League game of the season with Everton, and will not participate in the summer tour.
Last night The Mail reported that Aston Villa were considering Adebayor, who earns £100,000 per week, for a summer move if Christian Benteke is sold.
According to The Telegraph, concerns over Adebayor’s recent actions could put clubs off signing him, but Villa boss Tim Sherwood worked with him at Tottenham and could be his best bet to get his career back on track, if a financial agreement with regard to his wages can be reached.
